It had been centuries since the peoples of Arras Charka learned that they had been abandoned by their Creators. But after colonizing dozens of worlds, they were no closer to solving the mystery of where they came from. As the ties that bind them are stretched thin, war erupts among the many planets, colonies, and space stations. The greatest threat rises from the Independent Lapine Republic, who declare themselves master of all races, waging a campaign of destruction and death against all that oppose them. As the Confederation quickly assembles its own Extra-planetary Defense Force, tensions rise, mistakes are made, and people live in fear, uncertainty, and doubt of what the future might bring Albedo: Platinum Catalyst brings the drama of Steve Gallacci's long-running comic series to the stage of role-playing. Players take on both the roles of the commanding officers and their subordinates the teams of bold infantry, quick pilots, quixotic explorers, and clever scientists who must come to terms with their changing society as war threatens to tear it apart. To play Albedo, you will need pencil and paper, and polyhedral dice (four-sided, six-sided, eight-sided, ten-sided, twelve-sided, and twenty-sided).

Albedo is Steve Gallacci's long-running anthology comic, mostly known for its longest-running series, "Erma Felna EDF", about the eponymous heroine and her struggle to survive in an interstellar society torn apart by war. Various genetically-diverse races exist, all anthropomorphic animals, with no memory of their past.

A role-playing game (or RPG) is a game in which each participant assumes the role of a character (such as an ogre or a futuristic spaceship captain) that can interact within the game's imaginary world.*
Albedo can be called a "pen-and-paper" role-playing game. The players gather around a table with their character sheets, and a Game Host presides over the adventure.
Albedo: Platinum Catalyst uses a unique set of rules for command-and-control. Each player has their Main Character, with abilities and emotions like most other games, as well as a Supporting Cast of their subordinate staff. More than just personal abilities are needed a commanding officer needs to earn the trust of their fire-team, to use their skill base to maximum effect, and to balance the mission goals with risk to life and limb.
Platinum Catalyst emphasizes firearms combat with a realism and a simplicity unlike other role-playing games. Bullet groups, muzzle velocity, firing actions, beaten zones, and area denial all these aspects and more are modeled for ease of play and to stunning effect. Players will have to cope with dangers both known and surprising, and to make tough choices of how to deploy their fire-teams for maximum effect with minimum risk.
Two previous editions of Albedo RPG were published by Chessex in 1989 and 1993. The Sanguine edition of Albedo is a completely re-engineered game.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Albedo in print, the "platinum anniversary." The platinum-catalyst process is important in many chemical and industrial processes. We have chosen the subtitle "Platinum Catalyst" to both show our commitment to science-fiction and to commemorate two decades of Albedo.
